Biography

I am a 20-year-old Hurricane Katrina victim and resident of St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana, located next to the 9th Ward in New Orleans. Here is a little background about myself: My home was completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. I have many, many hours of footage....and good footage, of both my families struggles along the way, evacuation, local television warnings to evacuate, footage of my entire family living in a hotel room a little over a month, and many hours of footage of Hurricane Katrina. My 8 family members, along with 5 others, lived in trailers and a very small summerhouse in New Orleans after the storm. Now, we are in a new home that we have purchased and are currently renovating. This home is only about 8 or so miles from my old home.

In general, I've been making fiilms and "documenting" my family and our community since I was 8 years of age. Our struggle, and our community's struggle to be 'stable' is still being documented. Some of our footage was included in Spike Lee's HBO documentary film, "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts." We have so much talent, originality, and drive. We feel like we can contribute much of it to the world of entertainment, and eventually, use that power to help rebuild my hometown and New Orleans.

Why I'm producing The 1 Second Film:

I am concerned about the "5 Phase Plan," specifically the 3-D Second Global Warming film, for obvious reasons: It directly effects my community, New Orleans, the Gulf Coast...and the rest of the world. Even though I've just donated $175 to the '1 Second Film,' I wanted to know what I can do to help this specific film. For the 3-D Second Film, I will rent a billboard in my destroyed community. I will also go around to those rebuilding their homes and/or those still living in FEMA trailers and interview them and hand out fliers. Mainly, I want to know how long will it take for the 3-D Film to be in production or if it would be possible to bump up the 3-D film in the phase due to the fact that "Katrina" and its effects are still blatantly fresh here.

Some things I'm doing to help make this film:

JUST beginning to document GOATWORTHY's efforts. I am working on a 'special' video to promote the 1 Second Film. It will be very entertaining and it will be set in a popular location of the United States where most people visiting already have their wallets out.

Perfect Moment

When my entire family ate together and discussed our plans for Hurricane Katrina, evacuation, and life, right before the storm actually hit. My entire life, past, present, and future, flashed before my eyes. I realized how important filmmaking was to me.

hey burton, hows it goin? Should we plan a New Orleans stop? Hope all is well, n

So-so, better than before

My grandmother passed away Thursday night last week. But, Sarah and I are 'gettin' it together.' What graphic could I put on my car? I'm thinking of one of those semi-transparent graphics on my back window. I just wish I had a personalized New Orleans design to place on my window...oh, and I could document it. Lastly, my friend and I plan on making a special video for the 1 Second Film from NOLA...very entertaining.
