Form/Space Atelier Program For September 2008
Show Title: Play: Intuitively Altered Spaces
Show Duration: September 12- October 5
Opening Reception: September 12, 6PM
Exhibit is free.
Julie Alpert exhibits at Form/Space Atelier September 2008, addressing illusionism in collage,
painting, and installation as a metaphor for the way we suspend belief as a form of escapism. Her
process holds as much importance as her finished pieces. It begins with an intuitive response to the
architectural space the work will inhabit using found objects and building materials to distort the
space and create a loose narrative. She then manipulates photographs of the installation in collages, drawings, and paintings, distorting the already altered space. The work is an homage to German Expressionist film, contemporaries such as Jessica Stockholder and Lisa Sigal, and the tromp l’oeil artists of the 1600’s – early 20th century.

That means the blood in the brain isn't sleeping. Started workin on the puter. emailing ideablob links and coding. Day passed. kept forgetting to eat, lost in pixel dust. Checked twitter, and saw a tweet from Mickipedia about DIY Days. I'd completely forgot! Grabbed some Ideablob flier strips, hopped on bike, and peddled to the cornfield gallery. Wandered into a large garage space full of steamy air and filmmakers dripping with ideas. This free event was put together by a bunch of really smart filmmakers who have explored the new nooks and crannies of self distribution, self- funding, and just getting things done. every story was unique, organic to their films personaliy, and their own. i missed most of the day, workin away in my cave. but really enjoyed what i saw. one of the organizers, Lance Weiller really was amazing. i had not heard of or seen his films, but his ideas (and execution of) for getting his work out there was absolutely brilliant. Head Trauma. I need to watch and explore it when i get time. Watch for video of his talk on DIY Days. Johnson’s imagery is mysterious and beautiful, a thought-provoking spectacle of sensuous frivloity. One element, titled Séance for Descartes, employs sculptural means to creatively alter the exhibit space. Johnson’s newest work, 2008’s 21 Landings, gift-wraps beautifully the futlity of repetition. The exhibit is free, a limited number of copies of the video elements are for sale. Los Angeles Idea Project this SundaySubmitted by nirvan on June 20, 2008 - 4:58pm. community | events | ideas | la-ip | social-changeFor anyone in the LA area, come to the LA-IP (formerly TED>LA) this Sunday. The Los Angeles Idea Project is a single-day event designed to catalyze Angelenos' imaginations toward action. www.la-ip.com I presented at this event last year, which was really cool. This year's event looks to be even better, with 17 world class speakers and doers presenting topics such as human trafficking, sustainable land use, and the sacred geography of Los Angeles. Many of the speakers have presented at TED, like Joshua Klein who taught Crows to use a vending machine. when in doubt, IMPROVISE!Submitted by juliocrockett on May 22, 2008 - 9:16pm. andy dick | events | funny | improv | io west | laurel coppock | my other projects
I wanted to let any of you out there in cyberspace who may care about two COMPLETELY IMPROVISED and totally FREE shows that I'm going to be in THIS WEEKEND at the iO WEST's Andy Dick Experimental Black Box Theater. Yes, someone named a theater after Andy Dick... 1) Friday May 23rd at 11pm (following Heather & Miles at 10pm, who are incredible and I highly recommend seeing them) 2) Saturday May 24th at 8:30pm (following Laurel Coppock's "Breakdown City" at 8pm, which I can't recommend highly enough!) I will be performing with my improv group HAMMERSPACE (www.myspace.com/hammerspace_improv). These shows are all-ages, totally free, completely improvised, and really go a lot better and are more fun (and funny) when there's a good crowd... so it would be awesome if you could make it and see me wrestle with my new creative obsession -- LONG-FORM IMPROV! Here's the details: Pangea DaySubmitted by nirvan on May 6, 2008 - 1:33pm. art | events | film festivals | ideas | social-change3 Shows, 1 Night, Take Your PickSubmitted by evangenitals on April 19, 2008 - 2:58am. artichoke | evangenitals | events | improv | johnny cash | juli crockett | lisa dee | music | my other projectsThere are exciting things going on in Evangenital-land, and a LOT of them. This weekend is a Nexus of sorts, with 3 shows happening on one night - none of them Evangenitals shows - yet all of them Evangenital-related! Let me explain... Evangenitals lead singer Juli Crockett (that's me!) has just landed a new gig singing the June Carter Cash parts in the greatest Johnny Cash tribute band ever - Cash'd Out. (http://www.myspace.com/cashdout) Evangenitals drummer George Bernardo has been drumming with them for the past year, and this Saturday night - April 19th at 11pm - I will having my debut performance with Cash'd Out at the "Belly Up" in Solana Beach, CA. If you happen to be in that part of town, I would LOVE to have some friendly faces in the crowd cheering me on!
